Introduction
Sham Shui Po Police Station is a branch-station of the Sham Shui Po Police District of West Kowloon Region of the Hong Kong Police Force. It is a Grade II historic building. In order to deal with the security problems caused by the influx of a large number of mainland Chinese into Hong Kong, the Sham Shui Po Police Station began construction in 1924 and completed in 1925. At that time, it was adjacent to the waterfront and the Sham Shui Po Military Camp; the Sham Shui Po Police Station was only smaller than that of the Kowloon station. The oldest existing police station, Yau Ma Tei Police Station, was completed two years later. During the Battle of Hong Kong, the Sham Shui Po Police Station was used as a military camp by British troops stationed in Hong Kong. During the Japanese occupation, it was converted by the Japanese Imperial Army into the headquarters of the Sham Shui Po Concentration Camp. Before the completion of the Cheung Sha Wan Police Station in 1978, the Sham Shui Po Police Station was Sham Shui Po Divisional Headquarters, with its jurisdiction extending as far as Tsuen Wan before the Battle of Hong Kong. Sham Shui Po
Police Station was designed by Kung Wo & Co., Ltd. It is a typical neoclassical building of the British colonial era. It is divided into blocks A to E. Block C, which faces Yen Chow Street and Lai Chi Kok Road, is the oldest of the buildings. Tower C is a 3-storey building with a traditional columned porch and decorative railings. The sloping roof is covered with Chinese tiles, and several chimneys protrude from the roof. The design on the side facing the inner courtyard is more modern, in the Bauhaus style. The Sham Shui Po Police Station is a three-storey building. Later, a number of modern buildings were later built next to it to meet current needs.
