Searching for the Rabbit

For thousands of years, Chang’e has been trapped in the Moon Palace with only the Jade Rabbit for company. Year after year, day after day, the Jade Rabbit holds the jade pestle, kneeling as he pounds the medicine, to create the pills made that can make you immortal. In the Mid-Autumn Festival this year, the Emperor of Heaven specially rewarded Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit and they want to celebrate with the general public. However, the Jade Rabbit enjoyed so much in Jao Tsung-I Academy himself and forgot to return to the gathering point, and got separated from Chang’e .

The rabbit who wants to learn the lesson hopes that everyone can help him. In the complex, find the eight rabbits that have been scattered around; solve the words of the fairy medicine written on the Jade Rabbit, and so the Jade Rabbit and Chang’e can reunite. Friends who successfully save the Jade Rabbit will have the opportunity to stay for one night (worth HK$1,888) in a suite in the Heritage Lodge, one place per day.

“Fascinating Cantonese Treasure Box” - Cantonese Exhibition

From babble language, we learn to speak word by word till we can say a whole sentence; we grow, we learn another word, and then another sentence till we can converse with those around us of our feeling and important moments. This is mostly expressed in Cantonese, the common language of the current generation of Hong Kong people.

Teams will use Cantonese as the theme. There will be different "Text Cards" in the exhibition to introduce different Cantonese words, explanations, and cultural meanings. Some of the cards use invisible pigments to paint the moon, and visitors can use the UV flashlight to find the hidden moons. In line with the theme of the exhibition, there will be Cantonese crosswords, Cantonese TV, word-making sports, and talks on Cantonese. Inter-school Chinese Character Design Competition Exhibition

“Chinese characters derive from pictures and are always in the same line without interruption”
─ Professor Jao Tsung-i in Symbols, First Texts and Letters – The Chinese Character Tree

Sinologist Jao Tsung-i, expounded the origin and evolution of Chinese characters in his book Symbols, First Text and Letters – The Chinese Character Tree. The ancients created the earliest graphic text by observing the shape of the sun and the moon in the heavens and the earth, and the footsteps of the birds and beasts. They eventually developed into a unique text system that has been passed down to the present, and which encapsulates the worldview of Chinese civilization.

The aim of the competition encourages students to explore the wisdom and beauty of Chinese characters, and to deepen their understanding and knowledge of Chinese culture by integrating Chinese characters into their designs.

A total of 27 primary and secondary schools took part in the competition with a total of 390 student works collected. The judging is based on the four criteria of originality, creativity, content-related theme, and wisdom and beauty of the Chinese character. There are 12 winning entries from two categories. A total of 168 entries from primary and secondary schools were selected for the exhibition; we look forward to seeing you there!

Date: 13.9 – 9.10.2019 (Closed on Mondays)

A Brush and Ink - Calming the Mind with Zen Painting

Zentangle painting from the United States is a kind of spiritual activity that transcends religion. Under the guidance of an instructor, different Zen patterns are repeated over and over again. In this environment of freedom, where there is no right or wrong, comparison or criticism, calm your mind, relax, and with one stroke at a time, focus on the moment; be aware of the body’s emotions and thoughts when painting. With every stroke, breathe in and out, return to the present, and be aware of the state of your mind and body.

Chinese tools have been used to create Zen paintings in the West. Do you want to have try? Let us attempt to paint a Zen-style painting with brush and ink one stroke at a time, and create a Zen-like painting that resembles an ink painting.

The class purposely practices meditation, focusing on simplicity and reality, so participants will be able to integrate meditation into their lives when they return to their families.
