Introduction

The former Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir is located on a hill commonly known as “Woh Chai Shan” or “Mission Hill”. It is believed that the site was the first Kowloon church base of Pak Se Mission in 1898. Later, the area was sold to Tsung Tsin Mission as its base. The reservoir was originally called the “Kowloon Tong Service Reservoir” and was completed in 1904. It was part of the old “Kowloon Gravity Water Supply System” and provided drinking water to residents in Kowloon. The water distribution reservoir was used for short-term storage of fresh water to meet the demand during peak periods of daily water consumption. It was also a regulating tank. The former Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir ceased operation in 1970. When the Water Supplies Department planned to hand over the land in 2020, a hidden underground reservoir was discovered. In recent years, it has been rated as a Grade I historic building. Bishop’s Hill Service Reservoir is now open without prior booking. Here is a summary of reservation-free admission, opening hours, transport, reservation arrangements for free guided tours, and history of the Service Reservoir. In order to facilitate everyone to visit the Bishop’s Hill Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir for free, the Water Supplies Department will open reservation-free admission to the Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir starting from August 1. Open to all during opening hours. The venue can accommodate up to 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis.
