International Museum Day & Jao Tsung-I Academy Open Day 2017

Back in 1977, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) designated 18 May as the annual International Museum Day (IMD) to raise public awareness of the role that museums play in society. The theme chosen for 2017 is “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums”. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has responded to this important appeal since 2001 by organising IMD events in mid-May every year. This year, IMD in Hong Kong is scheduled for 13 – 14 May 2017 (Sat & Sun). The theme will focus on the role of museums as hubs for enhancing relationships between peoples and benefiting society. It also highlights how a contested history can also be a shared future.

Jao Tsung-I Academy as a participating unit, not only to respond to the theme, it also is the Open Day. We will be a series of exciting cultural programs, including exhibitions, guided tours, cultural talks, revitalisztion video, activities, handicraft fair, live music, etc. We hope to encourage visitors to go beyond their own personal experience to participate in feelings, and jointly create the social role of the museum.
