“The Love of Flowers” Photography Competition

Every spring, the old brick buildings of Jao Tsung-I Academy is blanketed with flowers. This year a photography contest will be held during the Flower Festival with the theme of “The Love of Flowers”. We invite you to take part in this photography contest, to use your lens to take pictures of JTIA and the love and beauty of flowers.

  1. Competition Theme

The photographic works will show the beauty of the natural surroundings of Jao Tsung-I Academy.

The theme is to show the unique style of Jao Tsung-I Academy though photographing its flowers, architecture, birds, portraits, still lives, and landscapes.

Use your lens to get a feel for these historic buildings.

 

2. Conditions of Entry

Entry is open and there is no age limit. Anyone who enjoys photography is welcome to participate.

4. Submission Method

Entries must be taken at Jao Tsung-I Academy from 5 February to 31 March 2019. Participants can download the registration form (Word  /  PDF) from this website with the name of the entry to programme@jtia.hk. Please indicate the 2019 Jao Tsung-I Academy Flower Festival “For the Love of Flowers” photography Competition in the title of your entry.

 

Each person can submit a maximum of two submissions. The name of the file should be given after the name: yyyymmdd.jpg:

The submitted photo files must be saved in JPG format, each of which should be no less than 500KB, but no more than 2MB.

 

5. Awards

The competition will be award first, second, and third prizes. The first prize winner will receive a one night stay at the Mountain Room of Heritage Lodge. The second prize winner will receive a one-night stay in a standard room of Heritage Lodge. The third prize winner will receive a “Vivid World of Chinese Characters” weekend workshop. Those receiving merit awards will be given a souvenir.

 

All winning entries will be used for exhibition purposes by Jao Tsung-I Academy, and will be uploaded to the Academy’s website (http://www.jtia.hk/flower-photo2019) and other social media to share with people in Hong Kong and overseas.

 

Outstanding work will be made into either gifts or souvenirs of Jao Tsung-I Academy.

 

6. Announcement of Results

The results of the competition will be announced on the Jao Tsung-I Academy website at the conclusion of the competition.

 

7. Judging Criteria

The judging of the competition will be conducted by members of local cultural and artistic circles. It will be judged according to whether the entries meet the requirements of the competition theme in regards to artistic conception, composition, and quality of the photographic work.

 

8. Competition Rules

The competition will take place from 5 February to 31 March.

 

Photographs must be taken within Jao Tsung-I Academy within the competition period.

 

Entries may not display information that promotes a product, and participants may not add texts, symbols, or pictures that include personal information, such as signatures or watermarks, to the work.

 

Digital photographs can be adjusted for colour, brightness, contrast adjustment, or dust removal. Composite photographs are not acceptable.

 

The work must be the original work of the entrant. Jao Tsung-I Academy reserves the right to use works submitted by the entrants for exhibitions, publicity or product production in any media. Jao Tsung-I Academy will not bear any responsibility or fees regarding copyright.

 

To ensure fairness, employees of Jao Tsung-I Academy and their immediate family members are not allowed to take part in the competition.

 

Jao Tsung-I reserves the right to refuse to accept or cancel an entry or selected entries without explanation. JTIA’s decision is final.

11. Other Matters

Jao Tsung-I Academy reserves the right of final interpretation of these rules and reserves the right to amend the relevant rules without prior notice to participants. In case of any dispute, the final decision of the Academy shall prevail.
